General Scope and Summary
SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a collaborative, strategic, and experienced research and development leader who will be responsible for providing strategic thought partnership and business management support to the Chief Medical Officer. At times, the position may also lead high profile initiatives as determined by the Chief Medical Officer and/or the Chief Medical Officer’s Leadership Team at Sage. The successful candidate requires a high level of biopharma/healthcare drug development business acumen and leadership experience across multiple areas, which may include Medical Science, HEOR, DSPV, Regulatory, and Portfolio and Alliance management (PPA). The qualified candidate will have demonstrated results in leading and consulting with cross-functional teams in delivering large scale initiatives and balancing the management, communication, and execution of multiple high priority responsibilities at any given time. This role requires the ability to work daily with senior level leaders within the Chief Medical Officer’s organization and cross-functionally with other R&D and Program Team Leaders to bring order, alignment, and focus to the efforts of the team(s) to ensure key initiatives are planned, integrated, communicated, and executed successfully. This position will report to and function under the guidance and direction of the Chief Medical Officer and will support the HEOR/MA LT as well as the HEOR/MA protocol review committee.
Roles and Responsibilities

Provide both strategic and project management oversight of high priority initiatives as identified by the Sage CMO that require a high level of organization, change management support, strategic thinking, and alignment of cross-functional leaders and teams to achieve the desired outcome.

Provide business management support to the CMO’s Leadership Team, which includes Medical Science, HEOR, DSPV, Regulatory, and PPA. With the CMO, be a strategic thought partner to functional LT members; plan and facilitate MORE, HOME, and LT meetings and maintain management tools to progress key strategic and tactical deliverables that have organizational impact. Identify bottlenecks or issues and propose resolutions to enable core work to move forward on time.

Develop content for executive level Office of the CMO briefings and presentations, including meetings with the Board of Directors and Sage Leadership Team (LT).

Oversee the organization, facilitation, management, and follow-through of the Office of the CMO’s Leadership Team to help sustain a focus on high priority issues and opportunities in a period of rapid company growth and transformation.

Be a strategic thought partner to functional LT members to advance key initiatives and execution of plans and priorities and attainment of goals. Ensure functional LT members have the information and context needed to make well informed decisions, and that decisions are communicated effectively throughout the organization. Contribute to maintaining a high-performing team.

Oversee the coordination and project management of the annual business and budget planning processes for the office of the CMO.

Maintain a view of the performance of the function and its people and culture; be proactive, identify opportunities to make the team better, put steps in place to enhance business performance, improve operational efficiency, and address the evolving needs of our people and culture.
Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

8+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech/healthcare experience.
Preferred Qualifications

MBA preferred.

Business consulting experience preferred.

Experience leading and facilitating high performing teams, with the ability to influence without authority to deliver broad impact.

Experience working with all levels of leadership, including C-suite executives, and consulting with key business stakeholders. Ability to create strong relationships at peer and senior leader levels.

Demonstrated experience leading high-profile initiatives that require gaining buy-in and alignment and instituting change management among multiple senior level-leaders and teams and holding them accountable to achieving timeline and quality standards in a fast-moving environment.

Direct experience with implementing short and long-term strategies and workstreams needed for the success of large-scale initiatives (including working teams through the change management process).

Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategy and translate strategy into action; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

Exceptional business verbal and written communication skills and developing compelling executive level presentations.

Highly motivated, decisive, and results-oriented individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in a rapidly growing and changing environment.

Benefits and Compensation
The base salary hiring range for this position is $168,230 - $231,317.*
- The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, education, skills, and performance.
- This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan; the bonus varies based on performance and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program.
