General Scope and Summary

Sage Therapeutics is searching for a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of an Associate Director, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR). The incumbent may develop or lead HEOR activities to support assigned product(s) within Sage’s portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of strategic plan for assigned Sage product candidate/indication, including studies on burden of illness, real-world clinical outcomes, epidemiology, quality of care, and unmet need. May lead the development of the strategic plans.

  • Work with Clinical Development teams to identify appropriate trial endpoints.

  • Advise and develop relevant sections of study concept documents, study protocols, statistical analysis plans, clinical study reports, and other development documents.

  • Participate in development of relevant meta-analysis, systematic review, utility measurement, or other outcomes research study as required.

  • Execute research using claims, chart reviews, MEPS, HCUP, literature, registries, government survey data, and other resources to summarize epidemiology and disease burden and unmet needs. These studies should produce high-quality project deliverables to agreed timelines and budgets.

  • Lead or assist in the development of Clinical Outcomes Assessments, Value Proposition, and Pharmacoeconomic models; support adaptation of economic models in accordance with local requirements/guidelines.

  • Assist in coordinating publications plans for dissemination.

  • Represent HEOR perspectives on cross-functional internal teams.

  • Present health outcomes research findings at scientific congresses and participate in the development and writing of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Conduct literature searches and systematic literature reviews.

  • Identify, select, establish, and manage a global network of contractors, consultants, and CROs to execute planned HEOR deliverables.

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of professional contacts.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, and the ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans and recommendations. Must have a demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way.

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in health economics, pharmaceutical sciences, or related discipline (MS, MPH, PharmD, or PhD).

  • 6+ years of HEOR experience in the pharmaceutical or related industries (e.g., consulting).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate technical scientific data to internal and external stakeholders, in both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

  • Excellent analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge of claims database analysis methodologies, chart audits, and other health service research methodologies.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach, is solution-oriented, and has demonstrated project management skills.

  • Demonstrated excellence in conducting and designing patient-centric research.

  • Experience in managing multiple projects across a variety of HEOR methodologies and therapeutic areas.

  • Experience in shaping clinical trial study design, including endpoints, to demonstrate value.

  • Ability to travel approximately 10-20% of time.

  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary hiring range for this position is $166,173 - $228,488.*

  • The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, education, skills, and performance.
  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan; the bonus varies based on performance and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program.
