General Scope and Summary 

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, and integrative thinker for an important role that will provide in vitro pharmacology support to ongoing early research and lead optimization projects. We seek an individual that is passionate about science, discovery, and the application of molecular and cellular pharmacology to neuroscience discovery research. In addition, the ideal candidate will be expected to have a basic understanding of drug screening and assay development. The successful demonstration of high-quality expertise in these areas will be critical.  

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research strategies across Exploratory and Discovery programs, applying expert knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts in areas of expertise.

  • Contribute to pharmacology strategies to support multiple early to late-stage drug discovery and development programs.

  • Manage pharmacology work streams across functions internally and with CROs and academic labs externally.

  • Design, analyze, and interpret pharmacology studies to evaluate the activities of small molecule drug candidates, investigate their mechanisms of action, and explore novel therapeutic hypotheses.

  • Review, analyze, and interpret data and make recommendations on next steps.

  • Develop innovative approaches and technologies to identifying novel therapeutic targets for CNS diseases

  • Prepare, review, and deliver scientific presentations and scientific summaries for internal and/or external use.

  • Contributor to high-quality, regulatory documents and scientific publications.

  • Manage pharmacology research in a matrixed environment, as well as external academic collaborations and an extensive network of CROs.

  • Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories and apply this knowledge to the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Good stakeholder management and a positive attitude are a must, as is an ability to identify and communicate issues to develop relevant and realistic plans and recommendations for projects. Must have a demonstrated ability to execute strategic plans in agreed upon timelines, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and understandable way. Able to align personal goals and activities with department and corporate priorities with support from supervisor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology, pharmacology, or related biomedical field.

  • Strong technical expertise in in vitro cellular, molecular, or biochemical pharmacology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience translating cellular neurobiology to in vitro pharmacology assays.

  • Experience with optimization and miniaturization of assays for compound screening.

  • Possess a strong attention to detail, be highly organized, and have exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative, matrixed research environment.

  • Experience using a range of data informatics tools.

  • Excitement about the vision and mission of Sage.
